To become a tile fixer you could take a number of different routes:

Tiling Courses Fast Track

Train with a fixer
Training with a fixer; this method can produce a skilled tradesman, however, you must first find a skilled and experienced fixer who is willing to take on a trainee. Training a fixer properly will take time out of the working day, lengthening the working project and a loss of revenue for the employer. Therefore, what happens is the trainee is used to speed the jobs up resulting in the trainee not receiving constant training but being told to watch when he/she can, mostly the trainee will be used for labouring, although many skilful tile fixers are trained in this way it is a lengthy process before the trainee is of a competent standard to be a tile fixer in his/her own right.

Train at a college
Training at a college; college courses are free to anybody under 18 years after which it will cost you approximately £800 pa for a day release course and take approximately 2 years, they provide a good basic knowledge and understanding of the tiling profession and they also lead to a nationally recognised qualification the NVQ. The course consists of 1-2 days a week at college where they teach mainly theory with the practical experience being provided by an employer for the other 3-4 days a week. They are mostly for people who can afford to have a low income for the duration of the training course

Train with the master tiling school

Training with the Master Tiling School; we offer 1-8 weeks intensive tile fixing courses, we have designed the courses to turn novices into skilled tradesmen. During their time at the Training Centre students attending for 8 weeks will fix at least 100msq of tiles of different descriptions, as nothing can be as beneficial as the experience gained by actually fixing tiles.

We have a specifically designed 3200 sq ft industrial unit which is the best training centre in the country, we have a classroom area for the theory, product a demonstration area and purpose built training facilities including bathrooms, kitchens, urinals and showers for you to tile. For those people on the 8-week course there are steps and risers, geometric designs and a complete installation of under floor heating.

As you will see from the above to gain an NVQ qualification you will need to be in training for a minimum of 12 months, at The Master Tiling School we can start you on your way to gaining this qualification which is why we offer an 8 week training course which is 320 hours of training being the equivalent of the day release hours you would receive at college in a year. (We also offer 2 and 4 week courses click here)

We cover vital training in health and safety allowing you to take your CSCS certificate, which is the first step towards your CSCS Card which is needed to work on construction sites and can only be gained if working towards your NVQ.
You will cover all the technical information required to achieve perfect results on every installation, the practical hands on approach and full working days with sufficient training hours to complete real projects with comprehension and the pre-written course work to compliment the course all ensure you receive the training needed to be successful.

All our training courses & systems are kept upto date in alignment with the latest technology and manufacturers techniques as we implement all these through our installation company in the field.

We offer advice on how to start your new business including invoicing, accounts and your legal responsibilities as a self-employed tradesperson.
