What made you decide that you wanted to be a tiler?I was working as a photographer’s assistant and work was becoming increasingly difficult to come by. My parents had always moaned that it was hard to find a tiler who did a professional job and so I decided to change career and give tile fixing a try. Why did you choose The Master Tiling School for your tiling course? I spotted an advert for The Master Tiling School in Loot and gave them a call. They offered the longest course in the country and were owned by a tiling company so I knew I would be learning the right skills to work as a professional tiler. What did you think of the tiling training at the Master Tiling School? I was impressed by how thorough the course was and how much it covered in 8 weeks. I took a little longer than some of the other students to complete each module but I think that was down to being a bit of a perfectionist and wanting the job to be done right rather than cutting corners to keep up with other people in the class. The Master Tiling School course was very hands on but incorporated enough theory work to ensure that I had a solid idea of what it was I was expected to do on each module. The business start up training was very helpful for me and it is what inspired me to open my own business. How did you feel once you left the School? I felt confident in my abilities as a tiler and as a businessman. I continued to learn new things once I left the school but if I ever needed advice, whether it was about a tiling job or about how to start up a business, I would just phone the staff at The Master Tiling School and they were always happy to help. What do you enjoy about your job as a tile fixer? I treat tiling as a kind of skilled art, I enjoy completing a project and being able to stand back and get a real sense of achievement. What have you achieved since leaving the School? I have started up my own successful company and built a strong reputation as a tiler who always provides high quality and good service. I came third in a tiling competition in summer 2007 for being a tiler who offers a wide variety of tiling techniques to my customers. What advice would you give to people considering changing career and learning a trade? If anyone is considering a change of career I would tell them to stop worrying and get in touch with the Master Tiling School. They provide you with the skills and confidence that you need in order to be a successful tradesman. I was one of their first students and the school has just got better and better since I left so you cant go wrong. Being a tiler provides you with more money and more free time than you will get with most 9-5 jobs and daily variety in the work place that always provides you with job satisfaction. |

“Thanks to your excellent training course, I now feel confident and able to go out and til. I wasn't expecting the course to be so enjoyable and friendly. I have just finished my first paid job, which went very well.
