After training at The Master Tiling School for 8 weeks I decided I wanted to be my own boss. The training at The Master Tiling School gave me confidence in my skills and also gave me a good insight into how to start up my own business.
After registering as self employed I began advertising in local papers and received lots of calls about small, local jobs which I happily took on. After I had built up a good reputation I found I was getting a lot of clients from referrals, which was great for business. I decided to start advertising on the internet as well as in the papers in order to reach a wider audience.
The Majority of the jobs I took on when I first started out were very local to me. I live in Sidcup in Kent, but now I advertise on the internet I have found that I am getting enquiries from people in and around Kent, Essex and London
After two years of working on my own I have recently teamed up with another tiler in order to have the ability to take on larger jobs. During my two years I have completed tiling installations of all shapes and sizes. I have installed wet rooms, full bathrooms, Victorian pathways, full kitchens and under floor heating. The job I have been most proud of was a 35m2 bathroom that I fitted. I installed co-ordinating walls and floors as well as the bath surround. I got great feedback from the client and received 3 referral jobs as a result.
My training at The Master Tiling School gave me the skills to tackle any tiling project that I have been faced with in my two years in the trade. I was nervous when I started out but I knew that if I ever got stuck that the team at the school were only a phone call away. I have gone form working as a stage hand for ITV where I was on low wages, to being my own boss and earning a good living. Tiling may not be the ideal job for everyone but it is certainly ideal for me.

Since leaving The Master Tiling School I have been to busy to sit down and write this but at last I have found a spare 15 minutes.
I left the school feeling confident to go out and tile and that is exactly what I have done. The course was a lot more thorough and much more enjoyable than I had expected it to be and when It came to the end I was a little nervous but also excited about the future.
I have just finished my first paid job, which went very well, and the client even gave me a tip! I have now made friends with a local tiler and he has offered me 6 months work in Brighton at the Hilton Hotel (tiling, not making beds). I enjoy being a tiler more than any other job I have done before and thanks to the fantastic course at The Master Tiling School I now feel like a real tradesman. |
